Defend Medicare—Sign the Pledge!

Concerned by business pressures to privatize Medicare (Canada’s publicly funded universal health insurance system), the Canadian Labour Congress (CLC) is encouraging members of affiliate unions—such as BAC—to join the Canadian Health Coalition’s grass-roots campaign to preserve and extend Medicare and derail efforts to privatize the system by signing the Coalition’s online Medicare Pledge.
According to CLC Executive Vice-President Barbara Byers, “We [labor unions and members] need to continue to demonstrate broad support for Medicare… We must defend access to care based on need, not on ability to pay.”
