With our economy in sharp decline, rising unemployment rates, and the American construction industry in the midst of one of the most difficult periods in the nation’s history, something needed to be done, and fast. The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, better known as the ‘economic stimulus package,’ is an essential and necessary step to creating the jobs that Americans so desperately need and to rebuild an economy that works for all Americans.
The time to reinvest in our nation’s crumbling infrastructure is long overdue. With President Obama, and the House and Senate majorities taking the lead, the immediate infusion of funds for the construction/renovation of schools, roads, bridges and transportation and energy systems will mean jobs for BAC members and others in the building trades. These jobs, in turn, will generate growth in other sectors of the economy by creating demand for materials and other services.
As builders of many of the seminal monuments and structures that symbolize the American dream, this generation of BAC members is eager to make its mark on rebuilding the American economy and the American middle class with the boost needed from the Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
