Reversing Job Losses – Job Number One

Anyone who is not convinced that job creation must be a chief concern going forward in our economic recovery should pay careful attention to the chart below,* which compares the job losses suffered so far in this recession (green line), to job losses in the 1990-1991 recession (blue line) and the 2001 recession (red line) – showing how dramatic and unprecedented the job loss has been in the 13 months between January 2008 and January 2009. During that time, the economy lost a total of 3.6 million jobs, with continuing job losses predicted in the next few months.
