Senior Vice President William Rivers reports on
the BAC Health Care Task Force’s prescription
drug study. |
BAC’s Health Care Task Force, which was established
to identify new ways to control rising health care costs
without cutting benefits, has endorsed the IU’s
participation in a union-only prescription drug purchasing
coalition. The Task Force recommended this action after
hearing presentations on the SavRx program and reviewing
a study that compared a sample of existing prescription
drug plans offered by BAC Local funds with the SavRx
plan. In every instance, according to The Segal Company’s
Senior Vice President William Rivers, the SavRx plan
would provide a savings of anywhere from 6 to16 percent.
“The new BAC SavRx program is available to all
of our Local health and welfare funds,” according
to BAC President John J. Flynn. “By signing on
to the BAC program, Local funds will become part of
a much larger and stronger pool that will be able to
negotiate better prices for our members than any single
plan could do on its own. As the number of participants
grows, we anticipate greater savings for our active,
retired, and temporarily unemployed members.”
