Phase II of Canadian Masonry Study Begins
April - May 2002
A major element of the Union’s ongoing strategic planning process, the Millennium Morning Project (MMP), is a thorough examination of current and future work force conditions and trends that impact BAC’s ability to recruit and retain skilled craftworkers. An important corresponding study to the MMP is the work of the Canadian Masonry Human Resources Council (CMHRC), which is now beginning the second phase of its national study of the masonry industry in Canada.
Phase II of the CMHRC study will focus on issues concerning human resources in masonry. To fulfill its mission, the Council is establishing task committees, responsible for the following areas:
promote design in masonry
improve and expand apprenticeship training
improve health and safety practices within the industry
improve work and career opportunities
maintain a qualified workforce
strengthen the management skills of contractors.
If you think someone working with you has heat If BAC officers across Canada are being asked to participate on the various task committees, which are expected to meet over the next year and a half, at which time, they will present their findings and recommendations.
BAC Canadian Affairs Director Joe Bognar, Jr. describes Phase II of the study as “a great opportunity for labor, management, and government to work together to set the stage for a more prosperous organized masonry industry.
