President Flynn and Local 1 Missouri Members Receive Gold Cards
 |
Local 1 MO Business Manager Don Brown presented eight Gold Cards at the Local’s annual Retiree Luncheon on June 17, including one to BAC President and former Local 1 Business Manager John J. Flynn. Following tradition, the new Gold Card members were also presented BAC pocket watches. “With our new awardees, we now have a total of 225 fifty-year members,” said Brown. “We are especially proud that President Flynn was here to receive his Gold Card and that BAC Secretary-Treasurer Jim Boland was also able to attend. Retired Western New York ADC Director Restores Legion Post

Keeping involved in his community, retired Western New York ADC Director William R. Wright, Jr., pictured at left, has taken the lead in restoring and improving Dalton, New York’s historic American Legion Post. Built as a Grand Army of the Republic Hall in the 1880s, Legion members including two-time Post Commander Wright have refurbished the Post’s floors, installed new lighting, and painted inside and out. Mechanical improvements have been made and plumbing has been upgraded. “I’m grateful to the Union for providing me with a pension so I can live out my life in a degree of comfort that allows me to do such things as restore my American Legion Post,” says Wright. |

Local 6 ON Business Agent Lou Mascarin was presented a meritorious service plaque by BAC President John J. Flynn and Secretary-Treasurer Jim Boland at a May ceremony held in Windsor celebrating Mascarin’s distinguished career. The 47-year member retired in June, but will remain active by serving as the Local’s President and Trust Fund Administrator. Local 1 Maryland/Virginia/ District of Columbia Retiree Honored for 75 Years of Service

The Capitol, Union Station, the Pentagon, and Andrews Air Force Base are just some of the landmarks that Local 1 MD/VA/DC member Andrew Rosemery worked on since his initiation in 1927. Rosemery, now 96, was presented a plaque for his 75 years of service by Local 1 President Jack Greenstreet, and Secretary-Treasurer Juan Sampedro in April. Local 1 Manitoba’s Horst Habeck Honoured

| The members of Local 1 MB, along with a host of Local and International officers and staff joined distinguished guests from Manitoba’s construction community in honouring Local 1 Business Agent Horst Habeck at his October retirement party. Several honours and gifts were presented to Habeck, an outstanding Canadian labour leader. |

Labor Hall of Fame Inducts Local 6 Michigan Member
Local 6 MI member Donald O. Larsen was inducted into the Upper Peninsula Hall of Fame on April 20 at Northern Michigan University in Marquette. Larsen became an apprentice bricklayer in Marquette after serving with the Army in the South Pacific during World War II. He soon became active in his Union and his community, teaching bricklaying to vocational students at Marquette High School and BAC apprentices on the weekends. He also served as job steward on many projects across the Upper Peninsula, and as Vice President of former Local 4 MI. An active promoter of masonry construction and union labor, Larsen served as the labor representative at U.P. Builder shows and served on the Board of the United Building Trades. Larson’s commitments extend beyond labor and include service to VFW Post #2439 and to the Messiah Lutheran Church. Ted Balzarini, Director of Northern Michigan University’s Labor Education Program, described Larsen as “an icon of pure trade unionism” during the April induction ceremony.
