In June, 45 apprentices in the Northern Ohio Administrative District Council competed in brick, tile, cement, stone, and marble categories at the recently completed 36,000 square-foot NOADC Regional Training Center in Hudson, Ohio.
Apprentices under the direction of NOADC Director Robert Fozio and Apprentice Coordinator Anthony McCullough were required to complete a one-hour exam with a total of 40 math, trade-specific, and union-related questions before moving on to a four-hour, 15-minute hands-on project.
In the brick category, Ryan Mayberry of Local 8 took top honors, Kurt Hupp of Local 46 came in second, followed by Frank Lohmier, Jr. of Local 7 in third. Jennifer Graham of Local 43 and Jeffery Agerter of Local 46 took fourth and fifth place.
Local 16’s Dan Heller won the cement competition.
Bill Dunlap, Jr. of Local 36 took first place in tile.
Winners of the PCC, stone, and marble competitions in that order were Jon Sprachmann, Chris Hoagland, and Michael Ward – all of Local 5.
The winners received cash prizes and the chance to compete at the North Central Regional Contests.
Judging the competition were NOADC Field Representatives Keith Hocevar and Gino Summa, Local 5 Financial Secretary Tom Cowan, and members Dave Dabrowski, Steve Hanlon, Max Kebeiks, Fritz Keiper, John Kooney, Don Medaglia, Robert Murphy, Richard Nagy, Ed Noel, Howard Rupert, John Suschak, Justin “Moe” Gorczyca, Shane Mangan, Jeff Pizzuli, Terry Gabor, Sr., Terry Gabor, Jr., Brad Hicks, Tim McKinney, Chris Cowan, Kurt Kopatz, and Steve Muszynec. They were assisted by Tiffany Yohman, Shelley Mateja, Laurel Neilson and Kathy Hawkins of the NOADC and Training Center staffs.
