It was all smiles and cheers on Saturday, June 16th as the Southern Ohio Administrative District Council conducted their 2007 Apprentice Contest at the AFL-CIO Union Industries Show in Cincinnati, Ohio. A total of 12 contestants in the brick and tile competitions participated in the event. The show also offered a Celebrity Bricklaying Contest, and bricklaying and tilesetting demonstrations.
SOADC Training and Apprentice Coordinator Ted Linscott oversaw the event. Local 45 member and former SOADC Executive Committee member Ron Dowler, West Virginia Apprentice Coordinator Chris Ford, West Virginia Area Organizer Steve Ruple and former Kentucky Job Corps Instructor Paul Wooton served as judges. Local 18 apprentice Josh Bollinger won first place in the brick category, followed by Gary Vermillion of Local 52 and Ryan Hephner of Local 3.
Local 55 apprentice Greg Gibson was the overall winner of the tile competition.
First place winners received a trophy, and all brick winners received cash prizes donated by Local 45. Local 55 donated awards for the tile competition. Winners went on to compete at North Central Regional Contests.
