New National Standards

Identified as a top priority by the BAC Apprenticeship and Training Task Force, a comprehensive overhaul of national BAC apprenticeship standards is now complete and registered with the U.S. Department of Labor. The new standards will provide both policy and concrete guidelines for quality training programs throughout the BAC/IMI training network, in all BAC crafts: brick and block, tile, terrazzo, marble/marstone, pointing/cleaning/caulking, plaster and cement masonry, and all finisher categories. They address recruitment, employment, training, supervision, and record keeping. “These efforts will provide advantages not only to current training participants, but will also help us with recruitment and retention,” said BAC President John J. Flynn.

BAC’s new national apprenticeship standards were registered with the U.S. Department of Labor on February 21. Shown here signing the Standards, seated from left are BAC President and IMI Labor Co-Chair John J. Flynn, Director of the U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training Anthony Swoope, and IMI Management Co-Chair Eugene George. Attending the signing from IMI are from left standing, Director of Strategic Programs Steve Martini, President Joan Calambokidis, and Director of Apprenticeship and Training Gene Stinner.
