Traveling for Work?
More Answers to Your Questions on BAC’s International Reciprocal Agreements

As promised, the Journal will help respond to commonly asked questions and concerns that members raise about the new International Reciprocal Agreements:

Question: What happens if my Local funds are signed to the new International Reciprocal Agreement but the funds in the Local that I travel to work in are not?

Do you have a question about how the new International Reciprocal Agreements work?

If you do, attend a Local or Chapter meeting where the new Issue-Bulletin on the Reciprocal Agreements is being discussed, and/or log onto www.ipfihf.org. Send your questions to:

Mail: BAC Reciprocal Clearinghouse

Answer: That’s a good question. For any reciprocal agreement to go into effect both the member’s home Local fund and the fund in the Local where the member travels to work must be signed to the agreement. That’s why we are strongly encouraging all BAC funds to sign the new International Reciprocal Agreements.

Question: What happens if one of the Local funds isn’t signed to the International Reciprocal Agreements, but it is still signed to an old Local reciprocal agreement?

Answer: If, for example, your home Local pension fund is signed to the new International Reciprocal Agreements, but the pension fund in the Local that you travel to is not, then the International Pension Reciprocal Agreement cannot go into effect. If both funds are signed to an old local reciprocal agreement, then the local agreement would remain in effect until both funds are signed to the new International agreement.
