Everyone Wins at Local 1 Hawaii Apprentice Contest
BAC apprentices from across the Hawaiian Islands gathered in Honolulu in July,
for a weekend of competition and camaraderie at Local 1 Hawaii’s 11th Annual
Hawaii State and 4th Annual Invitational Apprentice Contest. Apprentices vied
for honors in one of two categories—ceramic tile setting and bricklaying.
BAC Executive Vice President Gerald O’Malley attended the competition,
and was also on hand to present the awards at a special ceremony on Sunday, where
he was joined by Local 1 Business Manager Nolan Moriwaki, and other guests representing
the state’s union masonry industry.
As the awards presentation got underway, O’Malley commended all of the
competing apprentices, program sponsors, coordinators, and judges for their work,
proclaiming them all to be “winners” in their own right.
