Ohio Cement Masons Provide the Power for New Energy Center

Local 46 Ohio cement masons are helping to boost power production in northern Ohio with their work at the new Calpine Fremont Energy Center in Fremont, Ohio. Working for BAC signatory industrial contractor Kvaerner Songer, Inc., the cement masons are pouring a series of foundations measuring up to 900 cubic yards each. Six pours have been completed to date at the $340 million facility, with each pour employing a crew of up to 10 cement masons. “BAC’s Northern Ohio Administrative District Council (ADC) worked to successfully fight off jurisdictional challenges at Calpine Fremont, securing work for our cement masons and their contractors,” says ADC Field Representative Steve Shively.

The Energy Center is among the first of a new generation of power plants that will sell wholesale electricity to Midwestern consumers.
