Tools for Election 2002
New additions to the IU’s “Government
Relations” webpage, www.bacweb.org/govtrelations/,
offer everything you need to
get registered to vote and to the polls this Election Day — November
5th. “This year there are several pro-working family
candidates at risk,” says IU Secretary-Treasurer Jim
Boland. “It’s clear we can’t match the
opposition dollar for dollar, but we can make our pro-worker
candidates viable contenders by mobilizing our members and
families.”
The “Government
Relations” webpage
includes information that will help you brush up on important
issues, contact members of Congress, and take part in BAC
and AFL-CIO sponsored campaigns. It also contains job site
flyers to download and distribute to coworkers and family.
The tools in this section include:
— A state-by-state listing
tells where and how to register to vote in your community.
BAC’s goal for the 2002 Election, according to President
John J. Flynn, is to “do our utmost to ensure that
every BAC member and family member is registered and votes
on November 5th.”
— Here you’ll find additional
materials on key election races and issues, including information
about BACPAC, the Union’s political action committee.
To gain access to this section, click on “BAC Members
Only” on the “Government Relations” webpage
and type in the word fightbac in the password prompt box.
— The IU has put
together a number of fun and educational must-see stops
for your D.C. visit, including hours and contact numbers
for many of the city’s most famous (and BAC-built)
monuments and museums. It also has information on how to
order a U.S. flag that’s been flown over the Capitol.
