BAC Observes Hispanic Heritage Month
September 15 through October 15 is National Hispanic Heritage
Month, commemorating the September 15th independence days
for the five Central American nations of Costa Rica, El Salvador,
Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua, as well as Mexico on
September 16, and Chile on September 18.
By the time the
United States was founded in 1776, a Hispanic presence
had flourished on the continent for more than 200 years.
As settlers of vast regions of the U.S., Hispanics played
an important role in the country’s history and
continue to do so today. The figures hold the future: the
Hispanic population of the United States and Puerto Rico
has grown to nearly 40 million people, 40 percent of whom
are under 25 years of age. The number of Hispanic BAC members
also grows steadily every year.
The Journal is proud of our
Hispanic members, and their contributions to the strength
of our Union and to our communities.
