Remembering a Member’s Service to Family and Union

Generations of the Moore family have served, and continue to serve, as Union bricklayers across Alabama and Tennessee. The following poem honoring Local 5 TN member David Macon Moore was written by his grandson, Joseph Moore, to commemorate his 50 years of service to BAC and the union masonry industry. David Macon Moore passed away December 11, 2002.

Granddaddy Moore
by Joey Moore

Man, Yeah, Law De Day, He Wouldn’t have had it
Any other way,
Raised in Alabama, Moved to Tennessee,
Union Brickmason is what he chose to be.

Red Brick, Fire Brick, Block and Stone,
these are the skills he mastered and owns.

A.P. Green, Bigelow, and the rest,
He’s known through the country as one of the best.

Climbing under a Hearth Furnace, He had no fear,
had faith in his workers, and he did it for years.

One thing that was a rule of thumb,
If you’re going to build something, build it square, true, and plumb,

And if you’re wondering what he meant and you might,
He meant nothing is worth doing if you don’t do it right.

About his family if you ask him;
A grin across his Face…
He’ll say Love Em With a Vim.

Daddy, Granddaddy, Grandpa, Pepaw and more,
with all of these names there’s one thing for sure,
THERE’S A WHOLE LOT OF LOVE FOR
MACON MOORE.
