I am
a very proud Union brickmason. I started by being indentured
in [former] Local 6 Georgia. My birthday is in May and
I signed in June of 1950 — I had just turned 17 by
one month. My dad was a brickmason and he taught five sons
the
trade, and from his family came 17 brickmasons. I moved
to Jacksonville, Florida in 1957 and moved my card to [former]
Local 2 Florida. I became a masonry superintendent at age
26. I have been a proud masonry superintendent on many
large
projects. When I ride by one of them, I always stop and
spend some time looking at the beautiful brick and stone.
I received
the “Craftsman of the Year” award in 1984.
I received the “Recognition of Excellence in Masonry” award
four times for brick and stone from 1995 through 1997 and
for a brick and stone building in 2001. In June of 2003,
I’ll be in the Union 53 years, and will be 70 years
of age. I received my 50-year “Gold Lifetime Union
Card” in June of 2000 and I was only age 67. I am
still able and ready to build another masonry building.
I
am a proud Union brickmason.
