Local 1 New York Retirees Stay Connected to Union

Local 1 New York President Sid Lanzafame, right, and Secretary-Treasurer Jerry Sullivan, Jr. preside at Local 1’s recent Retiree Conference in Boca Raton, Florida. At age 90, former champion ballroom dancer and Local 1 retiree Julius Fine is still dancing up a storm. Brother Fine, pictured with wife Frances, was awarded first prize for Best Dancer at the Conference dinner dance.

Ontario Retiree Works to Raise Organ Donation Awareness

From right, CFL legend Bruce Smith, George Marcello, Jean Ann Cousineau, and Joseph Mollica. Mrs. Cousineau, sister of Brother Mollica, passed away October 1, 2002 while waiting for a kidney transplant.

After a liver transplant gave him a new lease on life, 45-year-old George Marcello set out to walk across Canada to raise organ donation awareness. During his journey from Toronto to Victoria, British Columbia, Marcello gained the attention and support of the Canadian people, including that of retired Local 4 ON Business Agent Joseph Mollica. A long-time community activist, Mollica joined Marcello on his walk through Welland, ON and has worked alongside Marcello to educate the public about the importance of organ donation. “Don’t take your organs to Heaven,” says Mollica, “God knows we need them here.”
