Bruce Smith, George Marcello, Jean Ann Cousineau, and
Joseph Mollica. Mrs. Cousineau, sister of Brother Mollica,
passed away October 1, 2002 while waiting for a kidney
transplant. |
After
a liver transplant gave him a new lease on life, 45-year-old
George Marcello set out to walk across Canada to raise organ
donation awareness. During his journey from Toronto to Victoria,
British Columbia, Marcello gained the attention and support
of the Canadian people, including that of retired Local 4
ON Business Agent Joseph Mollica. A long-time community activist,
Mollica joined Marcello on his walk through Welland, ON and
has worked alongside Marcello to educate the public about
the importance of organ donation. “Don’t take
your organs to Heaven,” says Mollica, “God knows
we need them here.”
