Local 5 PA Retiree Leaves Legacy in Terrazzo
A year after Ettore Lorenzi immigrated to the United States
in 1930, he joined former Local 18 PA in Scranton as a stonemason.
Soon Lorenzi was working with mosaics and terrazzo for what
is now Anthracite Tile & Terrazzo. Terrazzo’s durability
has allowed many of Lorenzi’s works to remain just
as beautiful today as the day they were crafted. Among these
works is the floor of the 12th and Pennsylvania Post Office
in Washington, DC, which depicts a map of the world in multi-colored
terrazzo Lorenzi installed in 1933. Today, at 89, Lorenzi
enjoys gardening, canning tomatoes, and cooking for his daughter
several nights a week.
