PCC Apprentice's Achievements Recognized
To borrow a popular phrase, Local 1 Pennsylvania/Delaware PCC apprentice Chris Benz certainly “has it goin’ on.” No doubt his father’s exemplary career path (Local 1 PA/DE PCC member Chris M. Benz), a supportive employer (The Masonry Preservation Group), and the instructive environment and teaching staff at Local 1’s training school all contributed to Chris’ early development as an outstanding craftsman. But it takes skill and a winning mindset to receive top honors at a regional contest, and Chris gets all the credit for taking 1st Place in the PCC competition at Region 3’s Apprentice Contest.
Born in Philadelphia, Benz, 27, now makes his home in Salem County in southern New Jersey, about a 45-minute drive from Philly. His BAC journey began after a tour of duty with the Marines, when he decided to follow his dad’s craft lead and joined Local 1 in June 2002. He went to work right away with The Masonry Preservation Group, where “everyone has been great and very supportive.” Chris enjoys the variety and range of restoration work, and has developed a special appreciation for historic pro-jects such as Princeton University’s Chapel. Married, and the father of a two-year-old daughter and one month-old son, Chris finds the Local’s pension and annuity benefits appealing for members interested in long-term financial security.
And with such a promising start, what will the future bring for Chris Benz? Chris looks forward to expanding his skills and aspires to a position of leadership.
