MAPEI’s New “BAC Only” Terrazzo System

A new cement-based terrazzo product, TERRATOP, developed through the collaborative effort of IMI, BAC’s Tile/Marble/Terrazzo Craft Division, and MAPEI, will be introduced to the construction market later this year. Due to the product’s innovative characteristics, designers now have an incentive to expand the use of terrazzo in the buildings they design.

A customized training program on installing the new material will soon be available to BAC craftworkers, and MAPEI has agreed to include in its specifications and distributor agreements a requirement that only BAC/IMI certified mechanics and finishers install the product. “This initiative will generate work hours for our members and revenues for MAPEI,” says BAC Secretary-Treasurer James Boland. “It’s really a win-win situation, and a great example of IMI, BAC and the industry working together.”
