Something for the Older Kids

Six million dollars worth of masonry work contributed to the construction of Mansfield Sr. High School – a $53 million project that employed approximately 40 Local 40 OH members. Demonstrating the value of using highly skilled union craftworkers, the project was completed two months ahead of schedule.

The most intricate aspect of the project was the installation of the 52,000 square foot terrazzo floor by members working for Anese Masonry of Freemont, OH. According to N.O.A.D.C. Field Representative Terry Workman, “This is one of the largest – if not the largest – sand cushion terrazzo flooring projects done in the United States this past year.”

Another 15 Local 40 members also participated in the construction of Mapleton High School, a nine-month project totaling roughly $900,000 in masonry work.

For both projects, members installed 550,000 CMUs, 160,000 utility brick, and 16,000 glazed tile. A combined total of 76,000 work-hours were accumulated while working for Northern Valley Construction.
