The BAC/IMI’s booth at this year’s Union Industries Show was a focal point for visitors, future masonry craftworkers, and the news media. BAC President John J. Flynn was on-hand bright and early to welcome CBS television’s affiliate in St. Louis and share the Union’s positive message. Flynn told reporters, “BAC and IMI really showcase what distinguishes union-built structures, union-made products, and our craftworkers from the rest – namely, a commitment to training
our members on the proper installation of all masonry products… and promoting the use of our highly skilled BAC bricklayers, tilesetters, cement masons, plasters, stonemasons and other crafts to build homes, places of work, and communities that can stand the test of time.”
Another attraction that brought
attention to BAC and IMI was the presentation of the George Meany Award to Local 1 Missouri member Dennis Gallagher. This award is given by the AFL-CIO to union members who have “made a significant contribution to the youth of their communities by volunteering in the programs of the Boy Scouts of America.”
