Retiree Not Just Sitting Around

Local 17 Kentucky member Odency “O.D.” Johnson and his wife Josephine realize the importance of staying active and healthy during their retirement years. O.D., 71, and Josephine, 72, walk one mile every day, a routine they began in January 2003.

Josephine is a type 2 diabetic and understands the value of staying healthy through exercise and diet. In addition to their morning walk, Josephine prepares low fat meals and makes sure to take her prescribed medication to manage her diabetes. Although his original motivation for walking was to support his wife, Brother Johnson’s health has also benefited from the routine.

In addition to staying physically active, the Johnsons are involved in the Phillips Memorial CME Church, and keep busy with their children and grandchildren.

“We’ve traveled throughout the country for family reunions to California, New York, two trips to Alaska, and in August, we’re going down to Florida.” The Johnsons have already traveled to over half the states in the U.S.

A 51-year BAC member, Johnson and his wife Josephine are enjoying their retirement years due to careful planning and his BAC pension.
