Guaranteeing a Place to Hunt and Fish
BAC Joins Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership

Former NFL star Larry Csonka got the TRCP ball rolling at the BCTD Legislative Conference in March.

The Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership (TRCP) represents a network of organizations dedicated to the interests of hunters and fishermen, but TRCP’s primary objective is guaranteeing us all places to hunt and fish.

After hearing Larry Csonka, NFL hall of famer and host of the Outdoor Life Network’s North to Alaska, speak about TRCP’s mission at the Building Trades’ Legislative Conference in March, BAC President John J. Flynn joined BCTD President Edward Sullivan and other building trades leaders in endorsing and becoming members of the TRCP.

Presidential candidate John Kerry is an avid hunter and Senate co-sponsor of the Open Fields bill, which would provide greater access for sportsmen to quality hunting and fishing areas.

TRCP recognizes that an abundance of wildlife and fish, and closets full of guns, bows and fishing rods, don’t add up to much without access to convenient and affordable places to hunt and fish.
At President Flynn’s invitation, TRCP grassroots coordinator, retired UA officer Gary Hammen, carried the TRCP message to BAC’s Local Leadership Conference in August. Although TRCP is nonpartisan, it does support pro-conservation federal legislation, such as the Open Fields bill. Flynn urged Conference participants to find out where candidates stand on hunting and fishing access issues, pointing out that the Bush Administration has made record amounts of public wilderness available to oil, gas, mining, and timber interests. In contrast, Democratic candidate John Kerry, a lifelong sportsman and conservationist, is committed to keeping wilderness available to hunters and fishermen. Kerry is also a co-sponsor of the Open Fields legislation.

Following a TRCP presentation, BAC President John J. Flynn and Executive Vice President Gerald O’Malley raffled off six newly issued Corwin hunting knives with the BAC logo at the BAC Local Leadership Conference in August. The knives are now available through BAC Tool Sales.
