UCLA Health Sciences Seismic Replacement Building No. 1
UCLA’s Health Sciences Seismic Replacement Building 1 is the new
home for the School of Medicine and Neuropsychiatric Institute’s neuroscience research programs. The five-story building, built by members of Local 4 CA, provides space for much needed research and training laboratories, and related administrative support.
The $2.3 million project features 25,000 square-feet of CMU, 35,000 square-feet
of brick veneer, and 5,000 square-feet of precast. The building’s exterior is clad in brick, precast, and glass. The brick veneer
is anchored to steel stud framing using an adjustable anchor system. Burnished block was used on the building’s interior and treated with an application of epoxy paint to produce a fungal growth resistant surface. All in all, the project required the use of 177,000 bricks and 35,000 block units.
Forty-six BAC members accumulated approximately 20,000 work-hours under the supervision of R & R Masonry, Inc. foreman Mike Reyes.
