In June, Executive Vice President Dominic Spano retired from the IU Executive Board and Gerard Scarano, a member of Local 5 New Jersey and Director of Region 2, was sworn in as his replacement.

“Dominic is going to be missed,” said BAC President John J. Flynn. “He’s served our Union well for many years at every level of the organization, and made a lasting contribution to our organizing efforts in the Southeast.”

Scarano, who was sworn in on June 1st, comes from a strong BAC family and brings to his new position both local and regional experience. “Jerry has been a member for more than 35 years, been Region 2’s Director for the last four years, and served as Secretary-Treasurer of Local 5,” Flynn told the IU Executive Council at their June meeting. “He’s done a great job as Regional Director, and we know he’ll do a great job as IU Executive Vice President.”

Flynn also announced that Al Catalano, President of Local 2 New York, has been appointed to serve as the new Region 2 Director. Catalano, who will assume these duties gradually as he transitions from his Local leadership position, is a 17-year member of BAC.
