Even at 80 years of age, Alton Smith of Local 1 MD/VA/DC stays active in his archery club, which he joined more than 50 years ago. Smith was Maryland State Champion and two-time winner of the Virginia State Championship. When he isn’t competing at archery, Smith enjoys traveling with his wife. Last December, they visited Heroes Square in Budapest, Hungary during a trip to Eastern Europe. |

Gold Card member and retired President of former Local 1 KY, Dick Mahoney’s granddaughter, Amanda “Cissy” Mahoney, is an avid volleyball player. Nominated to participate in the Third Annual National Volleyball Invitational Tournament in 2002, she represented the top five percent of the United States’ Junior Volleyball Class. Cissy went on to play at the University of West Georgia and at Perimeter College in Lawrenceville, Georgia, where she is currently enrolled. |

Local 1 PA/DE member Brian Ayers belongs to the Red Clay Bass Club, where he won third place in 2001, “Lunker of the Year” in 2002, and first place in 2003. But he is most proud of his son, Brandon, a well-rounded scholar-athlete. Currently a high school junior, Brandon took up wrestling and football in the third grade and has earned varsity letters in both sports, in addition to playing PAL basketball for two years. Recently, he placed first in Delaware’s Business Professionals of America Competition for Office Medical Procedures. |
