Best Brick & Stone Project
Local 3 Massachusetts
131 Dartmouth Street
Boston, Massachusetts

Signatory Contractor: Phoenix Bay State Construction

The world-class craftmanship of the members of Local 3 Massachusetts was showcased during construction of a new 11-story office building, 131 Dartmouth Street, located just north of the John Hancock Tower. Thirty-seven members, employed by Phoenix Bay State Construction, installed nearly $7 million of masonry materials and generated over 24,000 work-hours on the project, which took more than 18 months to complete.

The structure’s steel frame and masonry cavity wall required approximately 450,000 Glen-Gery face brick and 27,000 pieces of individually cast and mortar-set pieces of stone. At an additional cost of $500,000, granite, in two separate colors and multiple finishes, faces the storefronts, entry, and lobby of the building, while the street-level bow fronts complement much of the traditional surrounding architecture. As the building rises, its shape continuously changes to expose the roof terraces’ abundant angles and radii.

When it comes to quality masonry installation, the members of Local 3, like their neighbors the 2004 World Series Champion Boston Red Sox and 2005 NFL Champion New England Patriots, are world-class.
