Montreal Hosts CLC Convention
The Canadian Labour Congress, Canada’s house of labour with more than three million members, held its 24th Constitutional Convention in Montréal, June 13th to 17th. The Convention, which meets every three years, is the CLC’s highest governing body. More than 1,800 delegates, including BAC representatives, met to debate and determine the CLC’s policies and elect leaders that will guide the Congress’ actions during the next 36 months. The re-election of President Ken Georgetti to a third term is a clear signal that the CLC will continue its previous concentration on education and political action programs, focusing on employment insurance, pay equity, labour law, pension reform, and advances in child care and medicare. CLC Secretary-Treasurer Hassan Yussuff ran unopposed.
