2005 BAC Convention: A Heritage of Independence, A Future of Innovation
More than 300 delegates representing BAC Local Unions in the United States and Canada will meet in Honolulu, Hawaii from October 3rd to 7th for the Union’s 2005 International Convention. Held only once every five years, delegates will address issues affecting BAC members and the labor movement, elect officers, and set policies that will determine a course for the Union for the next five years in accordance with the IU Constitution. The recommendations set forth in the Millennium Morning Project report, the strategic growth plan that has been a focal point for BAC leaders and members in recent years, are expected to serve as a framework for a portion of the Convention’s formal business.
The 2005 Convention theme, BAC – A Heritage of Independence, A Future of Innovation, honors BAC’s rich history and resilience as the oldest continuous building trades union in North America, and its commitment to representing workers in the masonry industry. The theme also acknowledges BAC as a “Union of the Future” – an organization that has positioned itself to respond to change in ways that will expand work opportunities for members.
Because the Convention is BAC’s highest decision-making body, the IU will keep members informed of Convention proceedings and related news through day-by-day coverage at www.bacweb.org. Beginning October 3rd, coverage will include captioned photographs and that day’s edition of the special Convention Journal. Members who would like to automatically receive the daily Convention Journal by email (as a PDF attachment) should send their name and IU number to askbac@bacweb.org and note “Convention Journal ” in the subject line or in the message.
