Western States Apprenticeship Contest Hosted By Local 1 Hawaii

The First Place winner in the bricklaying category was David Frangione of Local 3 WA/ID/MT. Justino Malvar of Local 1 HI was the First Place winner in the ceramic tile category.

Approximately 70 apprentices demonstrated their skills and craftsmanship at the Western States Brick & Tile Contest and Hawaii State Apprenticeship Contest hosted by BAC Local 1 Hawaii on June 24, 2005. The Contest, which was held at the Honolulu Convention Center, brought together apprentices from BAC Locals covering Washington, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, California, Nevada, Colorado, and Hawaii. BAC President John J. Flynn and IMI President Joan Calambokidis were on hand to observe the competition, and attended the awards banquet and presentation that night.

In the bricklaying category, David Frangione of Local 3 Washington/Idaho/Montana won First Place, Matthew Hall of Local 1 Oregon took Second Place, and Local 7 Colorado’s Jeffrey Kersey won Third.

Justino Malvar of Local 1 Hawaii took First Place in the ceramic tile category. Richard Juarez of Local 18 California claimed Second Place, and Local 3 California’s Jose Guadalupe Ramirez won Third Place.
