“The Hip Bone’s Connected to”... BAC
 |
| From left, Dr. John C. Franco, 50-year member Toby Lucero, and retired BAC Region 8 Director John Franco. |
When orthopedic surgeon, Dr. John C. Franco, treated retired Local 4 California member Toby Lucero last fall for a broken hip, the two got to talking and found out they had a lot in common. Both call Albuquerque home after relocating there from Southern California, and both have strong connections to BAC. When Lucero told Franco how disappointed he was to miss Local 4’s retiree meeting to receive his Gold Card, Franco had just the prescription. It just so happens that the doctor’s father is John Franco, a longtime Local 4 member himself, and at the time, the International Union’s Regional Director. After learning of Brother Lucero’s plight, Brother Franco traveled to Albuquerque to present Lucero with his Gold Card and lifetime service pin at the retiree’s home in November 2005.
On January 1st, Regional Director John Franco retired from the International Union after more than 14 years of distinguished service to the Union.
