When You Speak Up for the Union — People Listen
May - June 2003

We talk a lot about organizing, strengthening our Union, and being proud Union members, but when was the last time you approached a non-union craftworker about joining BAC? When was the last time you talked to your friends or family about the positive benefits of being a Union member?

The times in our Union’s history when we’ve been the strongest are when our members are on the jobsite and in the community promoting BAC.

When non-union workers are approached directly by a BAC member, their interest in joining the Union increases. When members talk to neighbors, friends, and family about the quality of union work and how union wages and working conditions benefit the community as a whole, word spreads and union workers tend to be awarded more work.

I challenge all of you to be our positive voice on the job and in the community. If you know non-union masonry craftworkers, talk to them about joining the Union. Let them know you’re proud to be a BAC member. Help your friends, neighbors, and family understand why union-built buildings and homes are better, and how union wages create a strong middle class and strong communities.

Help us strengthen our Union, expand work opportunities, and negotiate better wages, benefits, and working conditions by encouraging non-union workers to join the Union, and by talking with everyone you meet about why you’re a proud member of BAC.

If you have ideas for stories or issues of concern, let us know by emailing us at askbac@bacweb.org or writing to:
