Issue 5 - 2007
The BAC Craft Awards recognize excellence in craft and leadership. The 2006 winners, who received their awards during the Local Leadership Conference in August, should be proud of their achievements. This year’s entries were outstanding in every way, making the judging that much more challenging.
This issue of the Journal introduces the winners and offers a glimpse at the quality craftsmanship that went into the winning projects. It also showcases those who, through their actions as craftworkers or officers, have lived up to the intent of the BAC Code of Conduct and earned the right to be counted among past winners of the Craft Awards.
They deserve our respect and gratitude for their contributions to our industry, our crafts, and our Union.
Just as this year’s Craft Award winners deserve our gratitude, I would like to thank all of you for an honor recently bestowed upon me at the dedication of our training center. Those of you that watched our web coverage of the dedication learned that, at the request of my colleagues on the Executive Board and the IMI Board, the center has been named the John J. Flynn BAC/IMI International Training Center. This announcement both surprised me and left me at a loss for words. I can only say that I am truly honored and humbled, and will do all I can to ensure that this training center continues to produce the type of quality craftworkers that have made our Union and industry strong.
Another equally exciting event that took place that weekend was the International Apprentice Contest. The next issue of the Journal will pay tribute to the finalists and the winners. If you cannot wait to see the results in print, however, be sure to visit our website at www.bacweb.org to view highlights from the contest, dedication and more.

On September 22nd, the BAC Executive Council unanimously endorsed Senator Hillary Clinton for President. Their decision reflects the results of a survey of members conducted during the summer, which showed Senator Clinton as the leading choice for President in 2008 among BAC members.
In announcing the endorsement, IU President John J. Flynn said, “After years of an administration that has turned its back on working families, we need a President whose priorities are our priorities ... a President who will work with us to grow the economy and address the issues facing workers and their families ... a President whose commitment, experience and strong leadership will help put America’s middle class back on its feet ... a President who will govern through strength – not fear.
Hillary Clinton has the strength and experience to deliver the change America needs.”
