eLCOSH: A New Resource on Construction Safety and Health

Click here to go to The Electronic Library of Construction Safety & Health Next time you want details on what some construction contractors are doing on site safety planning, on some foreign regulations requiring labor-management safety and health committees, on medical guidelines for respirator use, or on carbon monoxide hazards to construction workers, there’s a new one-stop source on the Web.

The Electronic Library of Construction Occupational Safety and Health, eLCOSH, provides information from a wide range of sources — in English, Spanish, and other languages — for anyone interested in improving safety and health on the job for construction workers. Workers, contractors, designers, project owners, safety engineers, doctors, researchers, government policymakers, and others can download materials including:

Brochures, pocket cards, and short articles about hazards and injury/illness prevention
Toolbox talks, safety checklists, best practice guidelines, and government standards
Statistics and charts produced from government and industry data
Links to other sites on construction safety and health, with notes on what’s on each site
Summaries of articles from research journals or conferences
A list of major upcoming meetings

Particularly useful to BAC members is health and safety information specific to bricklaying and the allied crafts. Try these links:

  Bricklayer
  Concrete & Terrazzo
  Mason
Plasterer
Tile Setter

eLCOSH start-up is coordinated by the Center to Protect Workers’ Rights (CPWR) through a grant from the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, part of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). CPWR is the research & development institute of the Building & Construction Trades Dept., AFL-CIO.
