Local 1 Connecticut and IMI Team Up For Training

Journal: September - October 2005

On June 29, 2005 BAC Local 1 Connecticut and the International Masonry Institute held an open house to announce the opening of the new 10,000 square-foot BAC/IMI Connecticut Training Center. The event attracted contractors, union representatives, architects and
other industry representatives in the northeast.

Local 1 Connecticut President Gerald Marotti opened the event by outlining how the new facility will be used and the goals of the training program. He recognized all the BAC and IMI staff for their support of the project, and gave special recognition to Local 1 Field Representatives Tim Palmeri, Todd Dexter, Ed Moavero, and Edward Hackett for their dedication throughout its construction. IMI-Connecticut Area Director of Market Development Rick Filloramo was awarded a plaque for Team IMI’s effort and for his design and construction assistance. Marotti noted that a great deal of work went into preparing the facility for use, including removing and replacing the building’s existing exterior walls, waterproofing and adding new brick veneer, installing a new concrete slab and terrazzo flooring, and plaster work.

The new facility serves as both Local 1 CT’s office and BAC/IMI’s CT Training Center. The Training Center will be used for teaching craftworkers at all levels – from pre-job to apprentice to AAC Certification, as well as seminars for contractors.

Connecticut Training Coordinator Tony Pacific and Instructor Jeremy Wojak were joined by IMI Regional Training Coodinator Pat Murphy and IMI National Apprenticeship & Training Director Steve Martini to explain the BAC/IMI training operation. Local 3 Massachusetts/Maine/New Hampshire President Chuck Raso and his agents were also in attendance to lend their support. BAC International Representative Tom McIntyre staffed the BAC mobile training unit outside the facility during the open house.
